When people are united, they desire to arrive at common choices, small and great, that take into account everyone’s point of view; it is not that the opinion of one or another prevails, nor is it necessarily a position that is the sum of everyone’s opinions. Something else happens instead: everyone loves, and for this reason everyone is ready to understand the idea of the others without imposing their own; in this climate, in which spirits are free of attachment to their own views and open to communion, it can happen that someone voices a ‘new’ idea that has just come to mind, almost as if suggested by the Holy Spirit, and everyone, at last, agrees at once on that one, almost marveling that they had not thought of it before; the peace and joy that the proposal of that solution gives to all is the sign that it comes from God and that we have been able to seek his will together.

Let me explain better by telling you an experience: we had to place a piece of furniture in a room so that it would be in harmony with the whole; one wanted to put it on the right, one on the left, one in the middle, but each of us made room for the other’s idea, without stubbornness. Suddenly, after a bit of searching, we found ourselves agreeing on a solution that none of us had thought of before and that was not the result of everyone’s proposals added together, but yet another position, truly fitting.

Jesus among us and in us, if with Mary’s help we leave him free to act, urges us toward the concord of hearts and minds, without diminishing the personal and unrepeatable contribution that each one is called to give within unity.

It is not a matter of everyone saying the same thing, but of knowing how to dialogue with others, truly wishing one another well and discovering together the infinite solutions that Love suggests, in order to choose the most fitting one for the present moment.

The reality in which we live is like a prism with a thousand facets: it changes depending on where one looks.
